A user on Reddit appears to have figured out how it's done already. As of the free Farewell To Arms update, Enter The Gungeon got two new characters, namely The Paradox and The Gunslinger. If you're hoping to find and unlock both of the new characters in Enter the Gungeon: A Farewell to Arms, you're in luck. The Paradox doesn't have a story, but Gunslinger does - and you'll have to kill his past to unlock him.
In addition, the patch notes reveal that two new unlockable characters have been added to the update as well: Paradox and Gunslinger. Most people who enter it are never heard from again. The expansion, dubbed Farewell to Arms is a free one, but comes with tons of new guns and gadgets, ability to pet the dog and a new way to play called Rainbow Mode.
